GOD’S CULTURE: LOVE

In this sermon Bro. Mololuwa Folusho  explain that Love is the very essence of God’s culture and the defining characteristic of His nature—Scripture declares that God is love, not merely that He possesses it. This divine love, known as agape, is unconditional, sacrificial, and relentless, seeking the highest good of others regardless of their response or worthiness. God’s love was supremely demonstrated at the cross, where Jesus willingly laid down His life for humanity while we were still sinners, enemies of God, and utterly undeserving of such grace. This wasn’t a sentimental emotion or a feeling that ebbed and flowed based on our performance; it was a deliberate, costly choice that prioritized our redemption above His own comfort. In God’s culture, love is the foundation upon which everything else is built—forgiveness flows from love, second chances are extended because of love, and transformation happens through the power of love that never gives up on people.

God commands His followers to live in this culture of love, making it the distinguishing mark of authentic Christian faith. Jesus said the world would know His disciples by their love for one another, and He elevated love to the greatest commandment—to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. This love extends beyond our natural affections to include our enemies, those who persecute us, and those who are radically different from us. It’s a love that acts, not just feels—feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the imprisoned, welcoming the stranger, and standing with the oppressed. God’s culture of love compels us to see others as He sees them: precious, valuable, and worth dying for. It moves us beyond tolerance or mere civility into genuine compassion, empathy, and self-sacrifice, reflecting the heart of the Father who sent His Son because He so loved the world.

Living in God’s culture of love transforms everything it touches, creating communities marked by acceptance, grace, and genuine care. This love doesn’t overlook sin or excuse harmful behavior, but it addresses wrong with redemptive purpose rather than destructive judgment. It speaks truth but always wraps it in gentleness and patience. It celebrates with those who rejoice and mourns with those who weep. It keeps no record of wrongs, believes the best about others, and never fails or gives up. When the church truly embodies God’s culture of love, it becomes irresistible to a world starving for authentic connection and unconditional acceptance. Love breaks down barriers of race, class, politics, and prejudice, uniting diverse people under the banner of Christ’s compassion. In God’s economy, love is not a weakness but the most powerful force in the universe—capable of conquering hate, healing wounds, restoring relationships, and ultimately changing the world one heart at a time.
